Tensegrity Coffee Table

Furniture American Oak Steel Wire Tensegrity Merit Award · SACE 2026

An original piece conceived, designed and handcrafted from handpicked 20-year-old American oak, with seamless grain matching across the sweeping arc. The upper surface appears to float, suspended entirely by precision-tensioned stainless steel wire rope through a self-engineered tensioning system.

Brass and stainless steel fittings, concealed joinery and hidden brass pins keep the form uninterrupted. Available with a tempered glass top or parquetry oak surface, this piece functions as both furniture and a sculptural statement grounded in physics.

Japanese Toolbox

Rock Maple Wenge Traditional Joinery

Crafted to demonstrate a developing skill set in traditional and detailed woodwork, this toolbox introduced a range of joinery fundamentals including friction-fit construction, flush saws and Japanese chisels. The maker's initials are hand-burned in Katakana characters using an electrically powered burning tool, bringing together modern technique and traditional craft.

No metal fasteners were used in the construction, reflecting a commitment to the authenticity and integrity of original Japanese woodworking methods. Constructed from contrasting rock maple and wenge, the finished piece meets its design brief in full: storage for multiple tools, a balance of aesthetics and function, and a genuine expression of traditional Japanese carpentry.

Noguchi Poster — Industrial Design Art

Graphic Blender CAD Render

This artwork was developed to depict the way industrial designers think when a product comes to life. The use of rough sketching techniques paired with a polished CAD render highlights the start and end of the design process. The bold text at the top of the page gives credit to the original designer Noguchi whilst also being an eye catching feature in the Futura font from his era.

The software Blender was of greater use than Fusion 360 when it came to rendering the table at the bottom of the page as it had more digital lighting and materials options while also being customisable.
